Funfair boss Kurt rises to the challenge
Article from the Bolton News
A FUNFAIR boss went into battle on a TV gameshow on a chariot made from old fairground rides.
Kurt Hill raced his contraption on the popular Channel 4 show Scrapheap Challenge. Mr Hill is best known in Bolton because of his involvement with North-west Funfairs. Mr Hill travelled to Hever Castle in Kent to film Scrapheap Challenge along with funfair manager Darren McMullen and cousin Laurence Hill.
The show usually pits two teams of contestants against each other in a different challenge each week. The teams have to make a machine from scrap and use it to complete some kind of task.
Mr Hill’s challenge was to build a motorised chariot to race around an obstacle course against the clock. It took four weeks to build, and can reach a top speed of about 35mph.

Mr Hill said filming the show was great fun and he would do it again. He said: “Out of the six teams, we were the only ones who hadn’t been on it before, and we were the only ones who didn’t break down.
“Ours was still running when we went home. It’s still running now. I might ride around Bolton on it. In fact, I’m thinking about selling it on eBay.”
